I don't see Kubalik being in our future plans tbh. Here we can fill some holes on the roster/get potential trade chips and a solid D prospect

Me either. But the value just isn't there. Kubaliks rights should cost at least a 3rd but most likely a 2nd for any team to acquire. Mrazek costs the leafs at least a 3rd to dump. Holl is, debatably, also a cap dump or of pretty low value. And Kokkonen doesn't move the needle much. So, in this scenario, CHI is essentially paying TOR to take Kubaliks RFA rights. Which I guess is fine if there is some behind the scenes "future considerations" involved. But at face value, it doesn't make sense for CHI.

I can understand wanting a better prospect that Kokkonen. I read up on him a bit and I like him, but there are probably some higher upside pieces we could realistically get in a trade like this. I'm not super familiar with the Leafs' prospects though, so I'm not totally sure who some candidates might be. Originally I had Roni Hirvonen in the trade over Kokkonen, for whatever that's worth

Personally, I don't totally think Holl is a cap dump (at least I don't think the Leafs should have to pay to move him). He's an ok 5-6 defenseman on a reasonable contract that has been passed by better players on the Leafs' depth chart and is now a "luxury" they can't afford. He's included in this deal, more or less, to make the money work and maybe give the Hawks a guy to pump and dump at the deadline -- teams love their big RHDs for the springtime and maybe getting out of Toronto allows him to elevate his game a bit. Getting that for free isn't something I'd necessarily turn down. But considering Holl and Mrazek combined will cost us $6.2 million in real money next season, maybe a better prospect like Hirvonen really is more fair

Detroit declines. Value is fair but we already have too many bottom 6 forwards.
