Congrats on the return for Fiala. It isn't bad but it's way off from what you were saying.

Thinking specifically about the return I think that thte 7th OA pick would have been enough to make the team bite but I don't think Dorian offered it because 7th OA is about the same value as what the Sens had in the 7th OA pick.

I also wonder if they had a deal going to Ottawa but Fiala wouldn't sign long-term there which forced the Wild to look elsewhere.

I’m not sure it’s that far off tho. We don’t know if they offered 7 OA, I’m sure it was discussed. A mid 1st and a sure thing prospect is pretty in line with what was asked. OTT doesn’t have many of those prospects that they’d move.

I think when push came to shove, OTT wasn’t ready to push the chips in and wanted to see who was available before they sent the pick.

Or budget restrictions might not have made sense to get Fiala and/or FIala wasn't interested in signing long-term with the Sens which screwed up the deal.

Jarventie is also pretty close to a sure thing prospect as well.

Definitely a factor to consider as well. As for Jarventie, I would have rather had the TBL 2nd. He’s a fine prospect but he’s still 2-3 years away from really drawing an opinion on IMO, could easily turn into something tho.

    “Way off”

Lol there were plenty of reasonable Wild fans proposing or discussing returns very similar to 19th + Faber. Id even argue that 19th OA + Grans was probably one of the most popular frameworks on this site.

But yeah, always nice to hear some veiled condescension from a 3rd party, so cheers bud.

According to Russo's article on the trade return.

Blake was the first GM to call Guerin today. And while the other teams had shown interest they hadn't made any offers to date. So when Blake called today and gave Guerin what he considered a *fair* offer. He delt him. No other actual bidding took place.

One could certainly argue that Guerin should have at least seen if one of Dorion, Fitzgerald, or Lou was willing to make their own offers and see if he couldn't drive up the price. But he has long said he's not looking to fleece someone and simply wants what he feels is fair value for his players. 🤷‍♂️
