Islanders aren’t giving a first, a third and a fourth for Tarasenko and Scandella. I’m not sure they would do it for Tarasenko even if the first was lottery protected.

If you're asking for thoughts, the first one that comes to mind is that you should always dump your bad contracts separate from the trades where you're trying to maximize the return.

Isles probably think about that package for a full season of Tarasenko, but once you add in the Scandella deal, it's hard to justify sending out a 2023 1st. Isles are adding nearly $11M to their team without sending any cap back, and while Scandella can be hidden at LD3, 2x$3.275M is a lot to pay for a guy that was pretty much your 8th(?) dman going into the playoffs. When you gotta trade for late-career Nick Leddy to improve on a guy, that guy is pretty much the definition of negative value.
