Description
Now this kind of ****s us for next season so maybe we do this at the trade deadline as a rental if we are competing, but if he does sign an extension then Voracek will be shipped out probs with our 2024 1st and a prospect next off season. So the total trade would be:

In: JT Miller

Out:
2023 1st
2024 1st
Foudy
Corson
Voracek

Probs not worth but wanted to see if the cap would work for this current season and it does! Team looks kind of insane too minus the defense unless they step up a ton this season.

If jarmo was willing to move a 1st to get rid of Voracek, he would have done that before trading Bjorkstrand.

I'm suuuuuuuuper leery of any Miller extension, particularly one taking him to 38.

He's been great with VAN, but spent a lot of time bouncing around as a solid-to-good F before then. Not sure I want to roll the dice on that, particularly since we have JG for seven years. Last thing I'd want is to saddle the life of that great contract with a bad contract.

yeah, just think with the Huberdeau contract that was just signed JT is gonna have more leeway in want he wants. Wouldn't want to give him an extension would be a great trade deadline rental if we were in that position tho

oh, absolutely, at least in terms of length.

But if that is the path he wants to go down, he will likely see himself as next years Kadri - In fact, if I'm VAN, I'd be pointing to Kadri as an example of what Miller could be walking into if he stands by 7-8 years or $9M+. His TDL rental market might be huge, but his market for his desired extension beyond '23 may be quite small.

There just isn't the cap space to go around right now (or for the next two seasons, likely), and teams are only going to be more and more hesitant to give 7-8 year term to guys, unless we are talking the Gaudreau's, Tkatchuks, etc. of the world; which, while Miller has had a monster season or two with VAN, I don't feel he has a resume anywhere near what those guys have.

Same as Kadri (though I feel Miller is better), I really would only be comfortable giving him 4-6 years on an extension. Even then, that sixth year would give me pause.
