Description
Maybe I'm not creative enough, but I don't see the flames being able to trade Monahan. Most teams will want a pick to take his contract and the flames will need to fill a 2C role anyways. It is likely better to see if he is healthy this year and ride out the contract. If he is healthy, it wouldn't be the worst to play in with Huby for a stint, if only to regain some confidence.

Trades

  1. Foligno, Nick
Additional Details:
Folignos contract is garbage, but it provides Calgary some cap relief. IMo Lucic adds more value, but Calgary needs cap if they want to upgrade FWDs.
BOS
  1. Lucic, Milan
Additional Details:
"Homecoming" for Lucic's retirement.
2.
CGY
  1. Keller, Clayton
Additional Details:
I know this looks like a Hodge Podge trade, but hear me out: Keller's value is only decreasing on the coyotes relative to his AAV. Playing in Arizona only hurts his numbers and value. His deal isn't a steal in any other team (except buffalo Arizona or Anaheim, where Cap space is less of an issue for now. Thus, money needs to come back to facilitate any trade. I think Keller could flourish on a better team. Same said for Philips and Valimaki, who have yet to be NHL regulars due to Calgary's depth at those positions and habit of letting players sit in AHL too long.
ARI
  1. Foligno, Nick
  2. Phillips, Matthew
  3. Välimäki, Juuso
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (CGY)
  5. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Calgary flips Foligno with 1 year left. This makes the AAV work and Arizona will need to make the cap floor with Keller off the books. They are tanking for Bedard. Thus, the trade is two solid prospects, a 2nd and a 1st for Keller.

His numbers indicate otherwise. He has cracked 65 points once. Compare that Mangiapane.

He could be a fantastic player. He is in Arizona and putting up moderate numbers relative to his AAV. I wouldn't include Coronato in this package for Keller.

If that’s your belief, why trade for him and his 7 mil cap hit in the first place?
