Toronto is in worse cap trouble than Minnesota. They don't have the room to re-sign Rasmus Sandin without trading Alex Kerfoot. Any trade they make would have to be cap-negative, not cap-positive, especially by $3 million.

If it's at the deadline, who knows what the situation is. And no TO is not in a worse spot cap wise. They have loads of depth and were a top 5 team last season. They don't have any really bad contracts. The worst being Muzzin who was really good in the playoffs, once he was healthy.

Even at the deadline, the point is they’d have to move salary out before absorbing new money. Maybe trade, maybe injuries, who knows - but I agree with OldNYIfan - no use trading with leafs unless you take salary back.
The Leafs have depth (I agree) but barring injuries or trades before or in season - they can’t add salary unless they move someone out or risk the waiver wire.

Not entirely true. What if they have a couple of long term injuries? Lets say Muzzin gets hurt right before the deadline and is out until the playoffs? They move him to LTIR and have extra space. It's a fluid situation. Their cap isn't nearly as bad as people think. Vegas is bad, they gave away a point a game player in Patches because they have no choice.

Toronto is not in a worse spot cap-wise than Minnesota?!?!? How can you reject indisputable numerical facts? Minnesota has $4.3 million in cap space, no remaining players to sign, and three open spots on the roster. Toronto is almost $1.5 million over the cap and still has Rasmus Sandin to re-sign. You think that those two situations are even in the same universe of magnitude?
