Description

So i was thinking the other day about losing Romanov and how it still annoyed me.
Then it clicked in that Hughes took MB Best trade and built onto it .
While i prefer Romanov over Dach i see the value of Dach over Romanov more now.
Regardless i thought it was kinda cool looking back how it panned out.

Weise and Fleischman became Danault and a 2nd round pick (Romanov)
Romanov became Dach.

CHI wrote both 1st rounders off due to injuries piling up in their careers young.
So in the end MTL turned 2 pending UFA 4th line players into the 3rd OA pick in 2019
Then again CHI turned Shaw into Debrincat and Krys who turned into a 1st ,2nd ,3rd and Garbriel.
Only reason they'd be considered a loser in the Shaw trade is their 2019 acquisition of him giving up Mysak

My point is in the Bowman Era MTL took Danault a former 1st rounder , Romanov and Dach in the end for Weise and Fleischman which to me is still nuts.
They Fleeced us on Shaw originally but hurt themselves by re-acquiring him for Mysak (more or less)

All this stated and with our former Assitant Coach over there as CHI new Head Coach
Maybe we should strike up another deal with CHI as better or worse both teams overall average similar gains and loss's over time.

Maybe this time a big deal for Seth Jones as MTL will come out of their Rebuild while CHI is still selling off pending UFA's gathering picks for their rebuild.
Atleast MTL games will be worth watching if Jones was added
My Question becomes whats the realistic cost on Seth Jones?(assuming he's waived his NMC for MTL)

I know it'll be a lot
But if a top 3 protected 1st and an additional 1st do it
I think hughes jumps at the chance IF CHI takes back a contract
If they take Hoffman or Matheson we'd be game
We got 10 pending UFA's the next 2 years not including Schuneman
We need to shave off a 1 or 2 contracts as we cant RS and trade them all for a profit .
Nor do we want them during a rebuild as they're individual players not veteran team leaders

I mean Dach was for Frank Nazar...who is injured right now so I can understand some presumption, but to leave him out is missing some pieces. Also, I give Danault 100% credit for reviving his career, but to be clear he was bad even between Panarin and Kaner. His career was on life support when that trade happened.

10 UFA's not including Schuneman in the next 2 years alone
Given the overpayment we got on Kulak,Chiarot,Toffoli and Lehkonen in a market with more rebuilding teams.
We can safely assume in today's market with 20 plus teams all battling for playoffs while 3 are in clear rebuild and 6-7 in the middle to end of their rebuild.

We'll have multiple 1st's and 2nd's as well as Prospects and Players added in the next 2 years.
If we cant have Bedard,Fantilli or the Russian then having MTL's 2023 pick isnt worth keeping over getting a 50+ Point defensman trained by Shea Weber.
Our single biggest hole is filled by Seth Jones and we get to move from Petry to Matheson to Jones for an upgrade on RD while dumping a bad contract in doing so.

Nothing but positive's for MTL despite the high cost
