GOING TO ADJUST AS COMMENTS COME IN

According to Tab Bamford, Kane has been on Lou's radar since he was in NJ. He also says Lou has asked about Kane since coming to the Isles. He says that Chicago's new management prioritizes picks over prospects, but "someone who can help the NHL roster now might be involved".

BREAKDOWN:

Beauvillier - Beau is still young and has shown what he's capable of, he's just always been really streaky. A change of scenery could help him out, as it would likely give him more playing time and hopefully he could establish himself as a consistent top 6 winger.

Salo - Salo still needs to develop a bit defensively, but he's just sitting on the Isles roster and not playing any games. Chicago could put him into the lineup and have him playing consistently on the bottom pair. He has really solid offensive upside and he's shown that with the Isles, just needs some more time to grow defensively and I think Chicago is a good place for that to happen.

Picks - a 1st 2nd and 4th may not sound all that appealing for a guy like Kane, but tbh this is just a start, I want to get a better idea of how Kane is valued so more picks can be thrown in.

Another thing to note, salary retention isn't necessary. NYI has $10.8 million in deadline cap space with Salo and Beauvillier on the roster. I would assume Lou would try to get Chicago to retain so he can have some wiggle room for any other deadline moves, but it's certainly not a deal breaker logistically.

This is probably one of the better trade proposals I've seen on here for Kaner. Agree w/ your points on Beau. And Hawks will need experienced top 6 help rest of this year and next with no Kane or Toews. Salo doesn't add much from Hawks perspective. Hawks have a glut of young left D prospects. He could be left out of the deal. Finally, regarding retention. If the Isles don't need it, the Hawks would value that retention slot to use in another trade. I could see this as the return for Kaner w/ no retention - 2023 1st, 2024 3rd, Beau.

I do think the Isles may get Kane, however I don't think Lou would trade Beauvillear mid season (or at all). Also the Islanders will have enough money to get kane at the deadline without retention and without giving up any players. I think a prospect and draft picks is the most likely deal for Kane

CHI wouldn't be interested in Salo but in general I think this is pretty close to what the eventual package for Kane will look like, assuming he agrees to waive: a 1st, another pick, a prospect, a mid-career guy who's not bad but a little overpaid for what he is.

I can totally see this scenario as well. Hawks will want a young (21 or younger) F prospect w/ top 6 upside, the 2023 1st, and another pick or 2 depending on who the prospect is.

I don't hate the package, but personally I'd throw in Homlstrom instead of Salo and swap the years on the high picks ('23 2nd, '24 1st). Isles haven't had a 1st round pick since 2019 and have one of the worst pipelines in the league - I won't argue that Kane would make the team better, but I'd be fine giving up a better quality of current prospect if it leaves us this year's 1st. Not sure if that would be a sticking point for the Hawks, but if I got to be Lou for the day, that's how I'd want to work it.
