About a half an hour ago in the season discussion thread on the forums (which i highly recommend checking out), a friend came up with this idea.

Both sides can make improvements: Trevor Zegras can work his magic and make the Bison King look like a million bucks, and the Oilers can acquire and rehabilitate a dependable scorer with their oodles of talent.

Except for the major problem that Vatrano was Verbeeks first signing as a GM, made only a few months back, and he was signed with term because he wants to be here.

We ship him out this early, we can say goodbye to UFA's ever signing here as long as Verbeek is the GM.

mmm the only thing here is Verbeek and Toronto were in discussions for Vatrano as when Dubas inquired there were discussion but issues arose with the 50 contract limit and price

I dont think he worries about that at all rn

I do not believe there were discussions, I believe that speculation got out of hand after Friedman mentioned he is the kind of guy Toronto needs on 32 thoughts. The media then ran with it and everyone assumed it was a real thing. I haven't found anything credible saying Verbeek was seriously entertaining trading him away.
