Description
Did it last year and enjoyed doing it, so I'm doing it again!

Here's last years, for reference: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3020384

Compared to last year, this team feels like they're playing a lot better. I could go either way with a couple of these different players (Alexeyev and Irwin could be argued up a tier, Protas could be argued down a tier). Overall though, this feels like a different team, in a good way, and not as much shooting themselves in the foot for every toe they have as last year.

Top of the Grade is closest to the next letter grade, and the bottom is almost the next grade down (though this year, a lot of guys are close together so being at the bottom isn't always a way to signify how close they are to the next tier)

Aube-Kubel in F tier he has been awful and Snively can’t be ranked cause they have only played him once. It is frustrating as a caps team to see Snively is the kind of player they need in the lineup a skilled, speedy young player and instead they constantly play a guy like Kubel who is slow has barely any skill doesn’t score and takes awful penalties all the time that really hurts the teams chances it drives me insane that they play kubel over Snively it’s stupid

I disagree here. Aube Kubel hasn't been stellar, but he's been far from terrible in all facets. Has brought more speed to the lines he's been on and has been defensively competent in games. Only 5 points could be construed as underwhelming but 5 points in 13 games isn't terrible from a bottom 6er. The penalties are a bit rough but rounded out by other facets of his game.

As for Snively, I chose to rank him as he's been on the roster and uninjured the whole year and in his 6 games, has really failed to show too much that makes me think he should be in the lineup ahead of guys like NAK. He has only 1 assist in those 6 games and to me, hasn't shown a lot to prove himself defensively, especially with larger opportunities to perform by getting 4th line time, as opposed to NAK who's had less opportunities on a worse 3rd line.

Totally agree with NAK and Snively assessment. I actually think NAK is ranked perfectly - he has come in and done a fine-ish job in his role. Irwin and McM are ranked appropriately as well. I initially thought McM should be in F grade, but not having played consistently and not playing his natural position does not help.

The only thing I would slightly disagree with is Eller being an F. I have probably been one of few Caps fans who is "softer" on Eller (as I am with Carlson as well), but Eller has been the best Cap in the faceoff dot (almost 54%), and has been quite good on PKs. Yes, his penalty numbers are bad and only 15 points isn't great (although his linemates were constantly changing). I see him more of a D grade, definitely not F, but, as I write this, I realized it is such a small detail lol

Yeah, I can get putting Eller in D, and I would tend to agree. Eller is only truly in F as a benchmark for every other player to be compared to. His PK abilities and faceoffs are probably enough to realistically pull him out of F tier.

I'd bump Irwin up to mediocre. He's pretty steady back there and you hardly ever notice him (in a good way.) He's nothing special but I don't think he's been bad. Everything else looks spot on in my opinion.
