as a ranger's fan, i hate that everyone overhypes motte. no way the rangers move a 3rd for him. he has 9 points in 30 games. i understand he's a likeable guy and helps in the playoffs and locker-room, i just don't understand a 3rd or a 4th being the return. even for a 4th, i would be moderately hesitant.

Motte is not a point producer...which is why he couldn't land a contract in the 2M range over a few years last offseason. But (assuming he can remain healthy) the speed, defense, penalty killing, and grinding style which he brings could give the NYR 4th line a big boost. Their 4th line has been an AHL unit most of this year- not a good formula going toward the playoffs where it becomes essential for the bottom 6 to be able to balance out the minutes much more. Don't think they can pull off a playoff grind with the 4th line players getting 6 or 7 minutes a game.

TB CAN'T take this deal cap prevents it besides Harmonic is a 7th defenseman on TB and you don't spend those assets for an insurance policy
