Description
CBJ can retain and take a cap dump, but it’s gonna cost. I’d rather have a good prospect than a draft pick that won’t be in the nhl for 3-4 years.

Could probably sling Korpi for a mid round pick and Nyquist for a late conditional pick if he’s able to get back on the ice.

Considering we are on day 5 of this being reported a done deal I would say it’s dead.

that certainly not dead. Cap is an issue for most teams in the league.

Would be smart for Bruins to continue to wait to see if/when a couple other teams to fall out of the race. Will let them get a better picture and the buyers/sellers will be a little more clear. Ideally more sellers and less buyers of course

But yea this trade would suck

If the reported price is a 1st and a 3rd for Gavrikov, you could probably look at this as: 1) Gavrikov at $1,400,000 retained for Lohrei and a (late) 1st - Jackets win this trade, but it's close; then 2) Craig Smith with no retention for a 3rd - Bruins win this trade, but again, it's close. Smith's fine, but he's expensive and hasn't produced this year. He wouldn't net a 3rd on his own with no retention.

I'd be pretty happy with this as a Jackets fan, especially if we flip Smith at the deadline with retention for a mid- or late-round pick. It's an overpay, but it's not outrageous. I'm not sure what the market value for Gavrikov is actually at, but if enough teams are interested and willing to pay that price, something like this is what it might take.

If you're the Bruins and think Gavrikov is the answer at depth LD THIS YEAR, who cares about the futures? Throw it all out the door. It's not like Lohrei is going to keep the team afloat on his own in 2 years or so when he's ready, but Bergeron, Krejci, and possibly some of Pasta, DeBrusk, Grzelcyk, and Swayman are all gone, and the rest of the core is on the wrong side of 30 (minus McAvoy, Carlo, and Zacha).
