Pens gladly accept though you’re basically taking Granlund off of our hands for free so therefore Hawks would ask for a second back

If Granlund had not looked terrible post TDL (he produced at a 20 point over a full season clip in his 1/4 of a season in Pitts) or he only had one season left on his deal, maybe but probably still no for me. The trade pick values are pretty close to even by the Atlantic chart, which means the Hawks are taking Granlund for free. 11 million in salary and 5 a year in cap is pretty hefty to take a gamble Granlund bounces back without much of a sweetener attached to him. I think there will be teams with picks in the teens (besides Pitts who should be all over something like this) with no so great prospect pools who should be willing to trade their pick in the teens for multiple good lesser picks to add some depth to their prospect pool.

This 100%. Drop 1 of the 2nds going to Pitts and you are getting much closer to fair. Honestly, probably needs to be the Hawk 2nd as a good portion of Granlund's deal is negative and a dump. Put it this way, if Granlund were a UFA and you had to sign him to a 2 year deal, you are not doing it for 11 million....more like 5 or 6. If half his deal is a dump, it is a nice 2nd or what the Hawks got for Zaitsev which is the 2 Ottawa picks in this deal.

I'm certainly ok with that. My intent (right, wrong, indifferent) was to keep that Hawks 2023 3rd. That might be a useful trade chip to move up with.
