Description

Habs draft whoever is available at 5 between Leo Carlsson, Matvei Michkov and Will Smith.

Dubois trade is self-explanatory. If the Jets want more in return, the Habs have enough leverage to just be able to wait it out until next year. Jets won't be getting that much more from the Habs. There's no reason for the Habs to give up a premium asset like another first, Dach, Matheson, the 5th overall pick, Guhle, etc. when we know that Dubois will join the Habs sooner or later anyway.

Tampa almost acquired Edmundson at the deadline. They circle back on him in this scenario and get a league-minimum 4th line LW in the process.

Chicago, having won the Bedard sweepstakes, need to surround him with some wingers. Hoffman is a proven PP guy, so acquiring him at 50 % retained for a late 4th in two years is probably worth it for them. Since he has two years left, they can trade him at 50 % retained after a year (1.125M) for a higher pick than the one they traded.

Hawks don't want Hoffman and certainly not paying a nickle for him

Only way Hoffman ends up on the Hawks is if the Habs pay the Hawks to take him.

Bolts also decline. They don't have the cap space for Edmondson without double retention, and they wouldn't pay a 2nd for him anyway. And they'll have better options for their 4th line without spending a 3rd.

Okay so if this is the best offer and yk the jets can get better offers why even include the deal if the jets can trade him as a rental for more. It makes no sense as you literally say "this is the best mtl can do but winnipeg can get a better deal elsewhere" so why would the jets ever accept this trade?
