Who says no

Consider: Girard is a 25 y/o top-4 D locked up for four more years at $5M per. Guentzel is a 28 y/o (29 at the start of the season) scoring wing on an expiring deal at $6M who will likely seek at least a modest raise. Some would say straight across is fair, a few would say the Avs need to add but I think Pitt needs to add to account for the contract status and age differential. I don't think this is a deal the Avs do because wings are the least valuable asset and Guentzel is expiring and they aren't looking to deal Girard but if Pitt added something significant, they might have to think hard about it.

I don't think this is a good trade for us. Would rather get a pick and A prospect for Guentzel. Get Orlov in FA for a few years and our D would be fine

Likely both teams say no, but moreso the Avs. I would think the Pens would prefer picks and prospects. Avs don't need to be wasting Girard on a piece that is 'nice' but isn't of the greatest need.
