Carson put up 79 and 107 points as a teenager in the NHL before being traded for Gretzky. Wallinder isn't close

Jimmy Carson was a 19 year old #2 overall pick coming off a season where he was top 3 in goals and top 10 in points. Wallinder is not the right comparable. Seider would probably be the closest value wise, but even then Carson was probably a more valuable piece than Seider is now

I think the $40,000,000 in today's money that was in the Gretzky trade as well would be worth more than 2 2nd round picks

Definitely wouldn’t be Seider. Maybe Raymond at best. But let’s almost consider the the difference between McDavid and 99(he’s great, but nobody is 99). Either way as the description said, this wasn’t a real offer. As great as McDavid is, if I’m Detroit, I don’t think I make this trade. Not in a cap world and giving up those picks.
