I dont think TOR is getting that return with no retention (especially to a non playoff rebuilding club for an expiring UFA)

Think about the other team. ANA isn’t making playoffs. Why would a rebuilding team trade futures and a young winger for a guy who’s gone next year? Could they re-sign him? Sure. Would they have any interest? No. They have a number of d prospects playing pro hockey this year that will need that spot next season.

Brodie is a very nice player, and would certainly be welcome on the right side of our defense (especially as presently constituted), but I doubt that we would pay more than a 2025 third for him, for the reasons set forth by our esteemed colleague @jded.
