Description
Love Monty but he'll be 30 when his new deal kicks in and this franchise does not have a good track record of keeping aging offensive defensemen. I just can't see a deal where he is paid what he deserves that doesn't age badly in like 3 years. Instead of signing Montour I decided to go with DeMelo here, who is very good defensively and would be more likely to take a short term deal. If all goes to plan someone like Benning can take the job of 2nd pair RHD in two years. Depending on the market Florida could also look for a replacement there.

Maybe if Chicago improves and Bedard is a star Bob wouldn't have them on his M-NTC? Would Chicago ever consider taking in a veteran goaltender to help them for two years while they look for their long term option? Maybe Florida could throw in a sweetener but I can't see them give too much up to dump him, definitely not players or prospects atleast. At $6,000,000 for 2 years he wouldn't really be a burden for their cap and he could provide some veteran presence to a young team.

Going with Hanifin instead of Montour feels like a mistake, but either way I can't see any world in which Bobrovsky is moved, Chicago would probably just run with Soderblom and Mrazek (or maybe Stauber?) even if they look like a playoff team.

I just can't see a contract for Montour that won't age terribly. If he agrees to a max 4 year contract the AAV will be huge for someone who's only ever had one great season. Signing a 30 year old to anything more is just a disaster waiting to happen. I really feel like Hanifin's skill set and age fits Florida way better in the long term.

And yeah I can see how moving Bobrovsky will be very tough but one can hope...

This is next season, so Mrazek is gone. But I don't think the Hawks take Bobrovsky for free even with that retention. Just doesn't fit the window.

Obviously we'll have to see if he can replicate it this year, but I think it's not unlikely Florida could get him on a 3-4 year deal, Orlov got 2 for instance. Didn't like how the E-Rod deal could very well handcuff Florida this offseason though, I'd think it would be much easier to figure out their situation without him on the books.

Orlov got nearly 8 million AAV though, can't see Florida being able to spend that much on him... Personally I like the Rodrigues deal as he fit well for our needs in the middle 6.
