A team that is essentially in the middle of a rebuild signing Toews to an 8 year deal would be a bone-headed move, IMO. I'm not altogether for it for the Avs but it does make some sense (at the right price) considering they're squarely in their window and Toews is an important part of that.

I mean, if Toews is 100% not happening, sure, a trade would be fine, but this offseason showed that teams are willing to part with a lot more for worse defensemen's ufa rights
