COL trade

Firstly Girard is still in the PAP as far as I'm aware. So he's unlikely to be moved while in that. Secondly, even allowing for a preceived drop in value from that, the Avs shouldn't make that trade. Not enough. At this point in his career Staal is simply a make-weight in the trade and Attard is currently a fringe NHLer at best. Could he be more? Maybe. But you'd have to think if PHI had any real faith in him he'd be getting a look by now. Frost is also a huge question mark.

I could see Colorado taking a shot on Frost, but I think it would be for futures.

Girard won't be moved this year (unless for some reason he asks to be). He might be available in a year or two, but not now.

My rationale is that Frost MIGHT be a better solution at 2C than anything they've tried, Staal is just a stop gap depth dman who can play some 3rd pairing (with Girard gone) and Attard or Grans Helge are two solid prospects who would probably step in to COL as the second best RD prospect. Its light, but Girard's production has dropped in Makars ascension and the injury would be a concern, but its light.

Its alot of ifs and maybes, but I just thought COL is dealing from depth (blueline) and saving some cap and staying young without moving limited picks/prospects/meh forwards is more likely, and it might preserve 2023-24 chances

There might be a basis there for a deal but I don't think the parts are right and unless Girard asks for a move (as something better for his mental health for example) on leaving the PAP then I don't think the Avs are likely to move him now during this current year. There's also factoring in that Frost would need a raise (assuming he works out) the same year as Mikko, Georgie, Byram and LOC. I can see your logic but just doesn't work for me.
