I would accept that offer for Murphy if I was Davidson.

Gonna disagree. I think the Hawks take a pass. Lucius has had 3 surgeries since he was drafted (red flag) and despite his great shot, his skating is average at best. And we know how much Kyle from Chicago values skating ability. I don't think the Hawks would rate Lucius that highly to retain for 3 years on Murphy.

I did not realize he had so many surgeries. Nice catch. I was about to agree with Snowhawk. But, something along these lines would definitely be interesting. Maybe if we were talking about another prospect. Though, red flags aren't absolute. He performed very well last year, between juniors, the WJC, and the AHL, and has done pretty well this year too. I also don't think average skating is a knock. The important part is just being able to skate at an NHL level, which he does, and his straight line speed and explosiveness aren't bad either. If these surgeries are more of a coincidence than a trend, for him, he could still be a desirable player.

Fair points however, I think the 2nd and 4th round picks are a pretty decent return on their own especially considering Murphy really hasn’t had a great season to date. Lucius is a nice add, albeit risky add to help compensate the Hawks for Murphy’s retention.
