Description
If Celebrini and Lindstrom aren't available, I would try to trade MTL's 2024 1st for Zegras. With Dach's injury, I'd like to acquire another potential C just in case.

Toffoli was a good fit in MTL and since being traded he scored 34 goals and he is on pace for 36 goals this season. He is a positive play driver which MTL needs more of and I think he'd just be a good veteran fit for this team. Good buddies with Evans, Caufield, and Suzuki still, his wife likes MTL, they had a cup run together, and he already signed with them once... lots of reasons for a fit. I used Palat and Killorn as contract comparables.

I don't know what MTL should do with their defense, so I opted not to make any changes at this time. The way I see it Struble has overtaken Harris who is likely gone at some point and Savard is also on the way out with Mailloux next up. Mailloux has probably overtaken Barron as well. Hutson and Reinbacher will be pushing, so they could potentially be replacing Matheson and Barron in the near future, depending on what happens with Kovacevic and how Guhle progresses (can he overtake Matheson?).

Laval Lineup:
Andersson - Gignac - Roy
Heineman - Kidney - Mesar
Davidson - Beck - Simoneau
Tuch - Mysak - Nadeau
Condotta, Legare

Struble - Mailloux
Hutson - Reinbacher
Trudeau - Fluery

Toffoli signed at 4,25M because he wanted to play for Montreal. He refused a higher offer from LA to play with the Canadiens.

Don't expect him to sign over than 4,25M if he decide to come back to MTL.

A lot of circumstances would dictate that Toffoli would get a higher salary / cap hit then his previous contract, even if he takes a "discount" for MTL. Overall, with the salary cap rising, the equivalent of signing for $4.25mil aav in 2020 is probably in the $5mil aav range in 2024.

but if we do use the Palat and Killorn contracts as comparables, then yes, $6mil+ aav at the very least to get it done. But honestly, I think that's justifiable for Toffoli. I doubt anyone would think he isn't worth that money.
I still think at least one of Armia, Dvorak, Anderson, or Gallagher would need to be moved out in order to bring in another vet. Habs still need to make space for younger players. Speaking of....there's no way Roy isn't on the team moving forward, especially next season. Only way he gets sent down now, is to bolster Laval's playoff push. Other than that, Roy easily slots into the Habs middle 6.

Armia is probably the only one out of that bunch that is tradeable. I disagree regarding Roy, he hasn't shown that he is ready for the NHL yet and even in Laval he has not really dominated outside of his hot start. Looks like he has more to learn, particularly defensively, I think he needs more seasoning.

5 forward contracts are up after next season, that seems like the ideal time to integrate Roy into the lineup.

I don't want another C, I want another C option. Should Dach get re-injured Zegras can move to C. Why is it out of the question that Zegras is worth a top 10 pick? He was literally a top 10 pick in his own draft and in a redraft he would be top 5. You hope guys like Demidov, Catton, Eiserman etc. hit like Zegras.

By the way, Zegras has put up similar results 5v5 playing C as Suzuki so...

    - ZEGRAS: 47.14 GF%, 47.09 xGF%
    - SUZUKI: 46.65 GF%, 47.47 xGF%

The sabres have a significantly higher need for Nadeau... who is playing in the ECHL? Right... I think this is just a trade involving 2 prospects that need a change of scenery. Throwing around the term "significant" when debating a trade for an ECHL'r is Capfriendly at its finest.
