Description
I like Skinner as a player but he is no longer in our contending window because next season is going to be a developmental year as well. I just don't think our prospects move the needle enough for other GMs to give us major pieces in return. The objects of trade talks are on teams where the current GMs don't have the job security to wait on prospects to hit. That's something that doesn't get discussed enough. You aren't prying good players off of contenders and good players on bad teams have GMs that will get fired before the prospect has a chance to develop. So buyout Skinner and that gives cap flexibility to keep Mittelstadt while still being able to add on defense. As long as Kulich plays less than 9 games, he'll be a Sabre for 3 full ELC years. We'll also have Ostlund, Walhberg, and the 2024 1st rounder as cheap ELCs that can contribute until the Skinner buyout is off of the books. It also saves money for the start of the Tuch extension. Again, this is a baseline with no moves but this would be a fun team to watch.

Mittelstadt isn't signing that, and you may as well just wait until you need to pay the elcs before buying him out if that's you're plan. Giving the Krebs treatment to Savoie and Benson probably isn't ideal either

You’d be better off just trading him and retain 50 percent than buying him out

First, the Cap is expected to go to $87.7mil for next season

Second, according to your signings, we’d have over $14.3mil in Cap room

Finally, if we didn’t buy out Skinner & gave Mitts $7mil per, we’d still have over $5mil to add to our defense

So we really don’t need to buyout Skinner
And that’s a good thing, bc it’s VERY unlikely

To buy out a player, don’t they need to be put on waivers first? And can’t a player with a NMC not be put on waivers? Is it even possible to buy out a player with a NMC?
That’s legitimately a question, not knocking anyone

Wrong year to buy him out, and he isn't a problem right know. If Adams would actually become a GM our contending window should have started and if he actually wakes up could be next year.
