Description
Trade featured in their article today about 5 trades they wanted to see happen. Had to make a few adds and get retention on both moves to make it all work.
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Dumba, Matt ($1,950,000 retained)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Middle of Arizona's 3 2nd round picks.
ARI
  1. Voit, Ty
  2. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
They didn't have retention or Voit but I needed to make the cap work.
2.
TOR
  1. Tanev, Christopher ($2,250,000 retained)
CGY
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (ARI)
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
2nd for the player, 3rd for the retention. Calgary has been resistant to retaining so far so any team can pick up that pick by being a middle man on the trade.

Both deals look good, love the idea.

I think a 2025 3rd for the retention on Tanev is steep based on previous deadline deals, but I agree with what you said about Calgary being hesitant to retain. Maybe a prospect and give them back their 2024 5th could replace the 2025 3rd?

Read this article too and thought it was an interesting idea. Adding Dumba and Tanev would be a very efficient use of a first round pick. instantly makes the defensive core super deep and solid. Probably would swap Dumba and Tanev for pairs but that's just me.

Though I don't mind Dumba. I just don't think he's what we need. Nor do I think he's that good of a player anymore. Tanev is an absolute no brainer. I've been calling for Tanev to be a Leaf for quite some time.
I'd rather the Leafs continue the push for Tanev and size up the forward group a bit with proven playoff performers.

The way the game changes in the playoffs we're just not quite there with this group.

Dumba and the Washington second for Toronto's first makes sense. Adding retention from the most financially insecure franchise in the NHL drops that pick to a third -- the Coyotes won't take a B prospect for it.
