If Pettersson actually pulls a Tkachuk

Canes pass. If they are moving Necas, it’s for an upgrade. Kakko is anything but an upgrade.

Even if Pettersson wasn’t demanding a trade he wouldn’t get that much value. If he is, the will certainly be less than that.

Rangers pass, they cannot afford his next deal, which will be higher than $11.5/year, they already have too much cap concentrated in too few players.

If Pettersson refuses to sign with Vancouver, the return will not be that much. VERY similar to Tkachuk situation where Pettersson will essentially get to choose where he will resign thus limiting the return.

That being said, this could be on the table from NYR:
Choice of Chytil, Trocheck or Zib (contingent on NMC's being waived)
Choice of Kakko or Sykora+Berard
Choice of Miller or Lindgren
Choice of Jones or Robertson
2025 1st (since Dolan wants to draft at the sphere in 2024)
Potential mid round picks that may have conditions to move up in rounds

Players/Prospects that will absolutely not be included: Fox, Panarin, Lafreniere, Perreault, Shesterkin
Players/Prospects that it's highly unlikely are added: Othmann, Cuylle, Schneider

Carolina is a much more likely place for Pettersson to be traded than the Rangers... the Hurricanes need high-end talent and have the farm system and the cap space to pay for them
