Unless you're retaining 50% on EK, Edmonton declines. And even then, Nugent-Hopkins declines. He negotiated that NMC for a reason.

I mean the cap is going up and karlsson is still good just an unfortunate year for the team. Bad coaching. This is about a -1 million change for EDM with the cap

It's a $5M change. They have other players to pay too, plus ~$3.5M in bonuses that will roll over to next year. They can't dedicate the entirety of the cap increase to Karlsson even if they wanted to.

Plus Draisaitl, Bouchard and McDavid all need new contracts before Karlsson's runs out.

There's zero chance of this happening.
