I think San Jose would prefer picks.

Orlov does nothing for them plus they have no more retention slots to try and move him for the most value. JK they just don’t need, he needs to be surrounded by stronger players to potentially blossom, he won’t progress playing in San Jose next to middle 6ers

I think the bones of a trade are there, SJ definitely needs someone that can moonlight as a top pairing dman better than Ferraro. However I think the gap between Ferraro and Orlov is far far far smaller than the gap between Sturm and JK whose contract is a giant gamble although it he has (i think) a decent buy out. I’d still want a pick or prospect coming back

I know points aren't the end-all be-all factor here but just for the record, the sharks would basically be trading away two fine contracts for two bad contracts costing them $7 million more for over twice the term in total. And the payout for all of that is only an extra 19 points.

Not sure how Carolina doesn't add like at least a 1st here just for Kotkaniemi's cap dump alone...

That blueline is awful.

Imho, there’s no way for them to keep all 3 of Guentzel, Jarvis and Necas and still ice a competent blueline.

Also, I don’t see a world where they pay Guentzel 9M til he’s 37-38.

Why on earth would San Jose do that?
