Description
Yes everybody wants Tavares and Carlson but I am trying to be realistic. Scherbak and Zadina split duties on 1st line. With each getting 41 games, both can develop and work on their game. I see Ryan as an excellent #2 C, but he is still a major upgrade and led the league in face off's. I was tempted to trade Petry with some of those 4, 2nd round picks to go get either Dobson or Bouchard, both excellent Right handed D-men. But like I said trying to be realistic. Plus Habs have 4 2nd round picks and should get hopefully 2 good players out of that.

MTL
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan
Additional Details:
Sabres top 2 C's will be Eichel & Mittelstadt. Sabres really need a goalie both Lehner & Johnson were brutal. They have Ullmark that should be one of their goalies, so they need another one. Sabres also need a 2nd line LW. Byron is good for 20 G's per. There is no question Sabres pick Dahlin with Bogosian. Then on 2nd pairing they will have Risto & Scandella. Alzner will fit in nicely on 3rd pairing. Was going to retain salary but Sabres unload a huge contract in O'Reilly for five more yrs.

MTL
  1. 2019 5th round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Shaw, Andrew
Additional Details:
To any team for any draft pick. Willing to retain up to $1M. Not implying Canucks nor only a 5th rounder, was just moving him out.

No interest from buffalo. We have our own goalie prospects and will probably pick up a mid level ufa to split time with ullmark. Alzner doesnt fit what the sabres want- fast puck movers, and would be considered a cap dump. So the only piece of value here is byron who would not get ror. We are horrible trade partners. Unless you wanna consider ror and pick 32 for pick 3, then im in.

Doesn't fit Buffalo's timeline.

Both Montreal and Buffalo are rebuilding teams (though Buffalo is a couple years ahead) and the Habs probably won't want to give up the young players or prospects that the Sabres would want for ROR. We just aren't good trade partners.

U will have your puck movers in your top four. especially with Dahlin and Risto. Buffalo does need a veteran presence in 3rd pairing. I admit Alzner is no longer at the top of his game and MTL could retain salary or add a draft pick. With that said, ROR becomes an expensive piece now that the two top C's are secured long term. Buffalo moves $37.5 M off their books, gets a 20 goal player and decent to solid goalie. So not too bad.
