Unpopular opinion, my vote goes to Morgan Rielly. I think he embodies the "process" and the team first mentality were looking for. He's shows really great leadership qualities during interviews and seems like he's popular guy in the locker room. Also it would take the pressure off of Matthews so that he could just focus on producing offence and not have to worry about all the interviews, that clearly annoy him.

Tavares is also an amazing leader, but I don't think you give the C to somebody that just got here. Morgan's been here for years through the highs and lows and has been stoic the whole way though.

Sorry what's a captain discount?? I don't even think Matthews wants to be captain, he would be if asked, but It wouldn't be a reason for him to take less money.

He'd take less money to be on a contending team I think, but not to be captain
