Talk is Karlsson wants McDavid money at the very least, He wants to be the highest paid D man in the league.

Meier is going to command a lot more than that on his next deal for sure

My simple (yet probably unpopular decision) .. don't pay Karlsson that much. Yes he's one of the best defensemen in the league, if not the best, but if you pay him $11M and you pay Vlasic $7M and Burns $8M.. my math says thats $26M just for 3 dmen.. that's way too much. Is he a great dman? Absolutely no doubt about that. But so far he hasn't fit in too well in San Jose and I also don't think signing one guy to an $11M a year/8 year deal is worth it if you're gonna be losing multiple players. If Karlsson really wants to win and not just get paid, he can stay in San Jose. But take a discount. Look at Doughty in LA.. signs a big deal and team is cap tight because of it (yes I know there's other players that have big deals there too) but if Doughty takes less to want to win more, makes things easier to get better players around him. Same has to go for Karlsson. And Doughty has 2 cups already so I wouldn't give Karlsson anymore then Doughty anyways
