Description
Trying something different. If interested, follow this thread. The idea is for us to work together for a rebuild scenario. Trades that the majority feel are good, will be processed and shown. Then we will move on to the next trade candidate. Please wait for a player to be named the trade candidate before submitting ideas on that player specifically.

CURRENT TRADE CANDIDATE: Pacioretty

I've started with 3 ideas:
Approved - Galchenyuk to Carolina (Lehoulx)
Approved - Plekanec to Pittsburgh (multiple posters)
Discussing - Pacioretty

I figured we will see how the discussion goes and how well this would work if we put our heads together.
Let's rebuild the Montreal Canadiens!

I've seen this proposal off site and thought it would be a good starting point.

Pacioretty + 2nd Chicago (2018) for
JT Miller + 1st NYR (2018)

Thoughts?

I think the Isles make the most sense there, but we can get more value.

De Haan, Beauvilier, Dal Colle for Pacioretty and a pick or another player? (Perhaps they could use Benn more than a pick right now)

Interestingly enough, we might be able to create a "bidding war" between the New Yorks. What are your thoughts on the NYR trade?

---------

NYR: JT Miller and a pick exchange (MTL trades a 2nd for a 1st)
NYI: De Haan, Beauvilier (+?) for Pacioretty (+?)
MIN: Brodin (+?)
CBJ: Anderson, Murray (Carlson)

Based on the Duchene trade, I'd say Pacio is worth at least a top prospect + 1st round pick or something equivalent.
Something like Pacio to Calgery for Jankowski + Valimaki, maybe?

The bias on this site is strong against Pacioretty but if he is traded sometime soon this season. He'll get a nice haul. Maybe not as much as what Duchene got because quite frankly Ottawa overpaid and everyone in the hockey world knew that.....the fact that Duchene has stunk up the joint in Ottawa since his arrival doesn't help give other GM's confidence to make a trade like that either.

People on this site are to quick to go to the "what have you done for me lately" mindset. Unfortunately, I highly doubt Pacioretty is traded this year and until he is or a player of calibre and term etc is, I'll never be able to prove my point. By that same point, neither will the neigh sayers who think Habs should be happy with a B prospect and a 2nd rounder. Those people are out to lunch and completely bias.

But the more I think about it, trading Pacioretty right now a opposed to the TDL this year or the off season will be a bad idea. He's mired in a scoring slump right now and is a streaky player. He needs a couple of those back to back to back 2 goal games that he is used to doing to get everyone off his back about the "bad" season he's having.............

Also depends on what MTL wants back too. Are we retooling/rebuilding or are we trading one dollar for four quarters? I think the only way MTL gets full value is if its for picks and prospects. No young roster players or quality vets.

Love that thread. Agree with F50marco, trading Patches means Mtl is opting for a rebuild, it makes sense to prefer high picks over established players.

I disagree that if Patches is traded, that it's for a rebuild. If MTL was ever dealing from a position of strength or depth, its on the wing.

Habs depth chart on the wing:

Drouin (LW, C) -> I still see him as a winger.
Pacioretty (LW)
Galchenyuk (LW, RW)
Gallagher (RW)
Lehkonen (LW, RW)
Hudon (LW, C)
Shaw (RW, C)
Byron (LW, RW)
Carr (LW, RW)
Scherbak (RW)

Honestly if Patches can be traded for anything significant at another position (either a young roster player package, or picks + prospects, or a player of similar age and value), it should be considered.

all players above imo should be in a top 9 role or higher (not on a 4th line), and although not one person can replace Patches offensive production, I think it would still be a lot more manageable position then the situation they are in now with a critical lack of center depth and the crucial need for a defensive partner for Weber.

Also, If Patches were to be traded, I would do it in the offseason, I think he would have more value at that point rather than at the trade deadline. Teams try and take the least amount of risks when possible with trades, looking at Patches at the TD would be extremely risky, you're not paying a rental price, and there's no guarantee that Patches will want to commit to the team since you can't negotiation an extension until the offseason.

Habs can do a sign and trade in the offseason, there will be a lot more teams interested since they will have more cap flexibility, so more teams available, maximizing his value. Teams would be more willing to pay full price since they can negotiate an extension at the same time as the trade.

My suggested trade: Patches + conditional low end pick (4th or 5th rd pick based on NHL games played by Gauthier) to CAR for Rask + Gauthier + conditional high end pick (1st or 2nd rd pick based on Patches performance)

I don't think Montreal would need to add any picks there. RNH isn't a favorite option of mine, but he is an option.

I've seen something similar suggested. Doesn't seem like Calgary fans like the idea of those two in such a trade. Not sure myself. Is the value there for both sides?

I do think the value would be better at the trade deadline. Especially if two teams are in an arms race. We don't have to move Pacioretty this year either, so the value would have to be convincing enough to pull the trigger now.

That doesn't seem like a bad basis for a trade and is decent enough value. I'd bet on Pacioretty's performance for the high pick. This season is an anomaly.

I do feel like Rask and Gauthier are less of a "sure thing", but the value down the road can make up for it if even one of them flourishes.

I have no idea who E. Prow is but I'd do that trade as a Habs fan.

Someone the penguins wouldn't miss, but good enough to be a solid AHLer. Looking after the baby Habs. smile
