Take out Jenner, Koivu, Kukan, Dalpe, Suzuki, Lehkonen, Drouin, Primeau, Poehling, one of Caufield/Guhle and Armia, and I think you're on to something.

Hamonic was never going to sign in Montreal, he wants to be in Western Canada. But I agree, Edmundson is an overpaid pylon.

I think theres a fit for DOMI in BUF
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan</b></div><div>I'm more confident in that pick than I am at Domi being effective long term. With Buffalo. Also, Domi is better suited at LW as much he hates it. Regardless MTL loaded there too.</div></div>
That's, like, your opinion then. But an important question here is if Buffalo patient enough to be waiting for that prospect to become an impact player in the next two, three years maybe. Remember it's a team that's been missing the playoffs for a decade now, the owners are frustrated, the management is frustrated, the players are frustrated and most importantly, the fans are REALLY frustrated. Domi would make them a better team right now, the 8th overall pick would most likely not.

The only reason I want to trade Domi is because we have a logjam at centre, not because he would not be a good player. Can't say the same about Buffalo who are still hoping with their fingers crossed that their last 8th overall pick would become anywhere close to the player Domi is right now and fill the void they have at that position.

I think theres a fit for DOMI in BUF
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan</b></div><div>You think a player who had 40 points is worth a player one who has the potential of 40 goals? a potential 2C? a potential top 4 D? Domi is stale, he cools off with Arizona, gets dealt. heats up in MTL, cools off. Shopped again. It's unreasonable and if that's the price we don't want to be the suckers to pay it. We all thought that Kapanen deal is asinine when we saw it. I can't wait till MTL deals him for pennies on the dollar. I'll see you then.</div></div>
Domi is fricking 25 years old who is one year removed from scoring 70+ points. But I guess he'll be a 40 point player from now on. BTW, the last 8th overall pick to have hit 40 goals is *checks notes* Jeremy Roenick, drafted in 1988. Let's see how Buffalo will be able to change that.

Jake Virtanen to Montreal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangle</b></div><div>too much. change baertschi to eriksson.</div></div>
No chance. You can keep Eriksson unless you're also willing to take Alzner back.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>I think that's best-case scenario. Weal in for Beagle at 4C
Also, Virtanen gets at least 3mil. Robby Fabbri just signed 2yr 5.9m deal (2.95 AAV) and he's same age with less goals and points than Virtanen</div></div>
I didn't want to deal with the possible Domi trade in this scenario so I just put some placeholders there while trying to keep us below the cap.

Kesler is just as useless and done as Alzner, has a bigger cap hit and has to take up a roster spot because NMC. Do not want.

Potentially if both Weber and Juulsen stay healthy. A lot also depends on if the Habs can stay in the playoff race, doubt they will move Petry especially to a division rival if they're still in it come TDL.

Three Little Moves (AZ, NYI, DET)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wingsfan33</b></div><div>I’ll be honest Zetterberg will retire a wing next year after his “back give out” as he will only make $1 mill in his last 2 years. Also highly doubt they’re looking to move the first round picks unless they’re getting a 20 year old top end defenseman. If your just looking for a 2nd line left winger I’d say Nyquist would be affordable</div></div>
If Zetterberg retires, doesn't Detroit get hit by huge cap recapture penalties (that contract is just textbook cap circumvention lol)? I agree that they don't need to make this trade but wouldn't it be more logical to LTIR him?

We look like this NOW...
Lol, seems about right. But:
- Danault extension is rumoured to be close
- DLR likely extended
- UFA market (Stastny, Pleks?)
- Poehling and Evans aren't ready yet but both had a great year in the NCAA
- Draft (Kotkaniemi?)
Plenty of options, something will be done to make sure we actually have four NHL level C's at the start of next year but even with the points above realized, it's still not going to be pretty.

He would be 37 at the end of a 5 year deal. Obviously if the term gets longer, the cap hit gets lower. I wouldn't offer him a 7 year deal, there's no pressure to take that kinda risk, but some other team that's closer to the cap and wants to compete for a cup at the moment might.

I think something around 6x4 or 5.5x5 would get it done. I'd give him that, he's a good UFA target for us imo.

I doubt any amount of $$$ is cutting it. Players want financial security, that's why they want to take cap hit discounts in favour of longer term.

Like Truebeliever said, that Ottawa trade is interesting. I think we could use Ryan more than Alzner (if Ryan can stay healthy) even with his concerning cap hit. Original idea, and I don't think it's half bad for either team.
I think Lindgren needs to prove more in the NHL before the Canes are moving a top prospect like Gauthier.
