You think this is the worst case? Didn’t you learn from the Karlsson trade? First they weren’t going to trade him. Then they were going to get a haul. Then they could of course negotiate an extension prior to trade. None of that happened. Rentals don’t get the world

I'd say the worst case scenario is Duchene and Stone walking as FA's

They're not getting half of that for Duchene. Stone is unrealistic too

You won't get Lindell, It'll probably be Anderson and a second for Schneider, and keep Tierney, Ryan, Jaros, Harpur, Smith, and Boedker. Then you'll be at the cap floor. I like the idea of acquiring Fabbro, and you'll get Fox and Kuokkanen if Duchene agrees to an extension. Ceci is good trade bait, and the rest of the bottom six forwards should get you C prospects and 6/7th rounders is they're packaged. I'd throw Trenin, Ceci, the Carolina first and maybe even a second in a deal to get your first back from Colorado. It's an overpayment, but a top five pick is worth it especially because you'd tank for the rest of the year after making these deals. This would be a good step for Ottawa to take.

They would if they guaranteed a Duchene extension. Maybe take out Trenin from the trade. A really low first and an A prospect is what Stone and an extension is worth. They wouldn't have to go into a bidding war in the offseason to acquire him. Teams likely won't get Stone or Duchene if they don't do a trade and extension. Ottawa will either trade them with an extension, sign extensions with Ottawa, or in the worst case scenario trade them as rentals. Which I seriously doubt will happen.

This looks more like a best case scenario. I don't see many of these deals happening. Also that team would lose to alot of AHL teams.

Do you have any idea how rare it is that trades come with extensions?

I do. Which is why I tend to hold the opinion that Ottawa will probably not trade them at all and try to work out an extension themselves. The values are fair if extension were involved for those trades though.

I still think in any Nashville trade for Stone, Ottawa would be at least able to get one of Fiala, Trenin, Fabbro. And Carolina would definitely give up Adam Fox for Duchene even as a rental
