Patches for ROR 1 for 1 isn't a good deal for Buffalo. ROR is one of the best centers in the league and Patches' deal is up after 2019

Valiev and Benn in the lineup over alzner?

I think a deal could get done with Buffalo if MTL includes a conditional pick based on Patches resigning and a decent prospect Buffalo is interested in. I offered Pacioretty, Lindgren, and a conditional 1st and got told by 3 different Buffalo fans that's not enough.. a lot of people overvalueing O'Reilly and/or undervaluing Pacioretty on this site.

The point he's trying to make is that ROR isn't one of the best centers in the league. must of gone right over your head

anyways I think every reasonable person on here can agree that ROR is worth more than Patches 1v1, but definitely not as much as BUF fans think. which is why ROR most likely stays a Sabres.

Points don't mean everything. ROR maintains one of the best faceoff percentages in the entire league and he can easily lead a PK unit, and he barely takes any penalties so that adds a ton of value to him since he is almost always available for the PK, it just sucks that he's on a trash team. And compared to some of the players you listed, not only is ROR better than almost half of them, but some are overpaid in comparison to ROR Defensive centers are hard to come by in today's game.

Also, you didn't prove anything about what I originally said about Patches being under contract for only one year not being worth ROR 1 for 1

By that logic, he's still a 1C...

As a Flames fan let me offer an unbiased opinion -the Fact of the matter is you Habs fans drastically overvalue Patches.

Let’s look at the facts. He turns 30 when the season starts. He is a left wing. He has one year left on his contract then isa UFA. He scored a whopping 37 points last year which raises the over 30 yr old declining scorer warning flags big time.

And now you want to swap him for ROR, a center who turned 27 in Febuary, is locked up under contract (albeit an expensive one) for the next 5 years. Scored 61 points last year and is probably the best faceoff guy in the league. And to make the deal more “fair” you add a conditional 1st and a goaltender who couldn’t even beat out Niemi for the back up job on your own team?

Your only hope of getting ROR went out the door when u made that curious pick with the 3OA. Unless ypu are prepared to table Gallager you just don’t have the Assetts to pry him away. Way too many other interested suitors.

PAC had ONE bad year.... HE IS TOP TEN for goals in the last 5 years. Better than Kessel, Giroux, Perry, Kucherov, etc.... @4,5M it's a STEAL

O'Reilly will float between the 2nd and 3rd line in BUF next year, with a salary (bonus incuded) of 8,500,000$

I'm not saying it is equal, considering PAC could be UFA in a year, but please realize the PAC is an ELITE SNIPER and O'reilly is way OVERPAID and expandable.

As other have said pacioretty had one bad year, in a year where the entire team had a bad year. The conditional pick (lets call it what it is actually is conditional 1st round pick) completely offsets the fact that Pacioretty has one year left on his contract.

Lindgren is good enough to be an NHL starter, but he's not gonna play over price and he's not gonna rot as a backup goalie. Also Niemi put up a 0.929 sv% for a tanking Montreal Canadiens team. To say Lindgren can't even beat him out is a little unfair Niemi was one of the best (if not the best) back up goalies in the league last year and he is 34 and perfect for the role. Lindgren is 24 and needs to play to keep improving.

If you are so "biased" I don't get how you can't see that from the habs perspective we are offering one of the best goal scoring wingers in the league, a goalie prospect who's primed to be a starter and potentially a 1st round pick which could range from anywhere to 1st overall to 31st. In return we get a top 6 C (borderline 1st Line). Its a big package to offer and any team that gives up more will look as dumb as Ottawa for getting Duchene.

To be honest I think Buffalo should keep O'Reilly, yes hes disappointed about losing but with Dahlin they are closer to turning things around.

Edit:
In summary, if you feel that we overvalue pacioretty that's fine. Montreal is better off keeping their elite goal scoring winger than giving him away while everyone else thinks he has no value.
