Winnipeg True Cup Favorite

Created by: scarbrow21
Team: 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2018
Published: Jan. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
PHI and CGY both on the cusp right now, would have to be out of it at the deadline. CGY likely doesn't want to move Backlund but without an extension, and being out of it they could use the assets. They also strike a deal where by the pick is conditional in that if WPG re-signs Backlund it becomes a 2nd, if WPG doesn't re-sign backlund prior to June 25th, Backlund is traded back to CGY so they can negotiate exclusively with Backlund between then and July 1st and the 3rd is null.

PHI needs to keep re-tooling. If they're sitting out of it come the deadline only the young core should remain untouchable. Simmonds brings exactly what the Jets need for a deep playoff run this year, with the added bonus he has another year. It's worth giving up Vesalainen, Lemiuex and a 1st for him and no one will think twice if the Jets are able to make the final, or like I think they will...win it all.

Matching up against this top 9 would be next to impossible for most teams, and if the D-core can remain healthy, it can rival Nashvilles.

All it would take then is for Hellebuyck to maintain a similar level of play we've seen all year and there's your cup favorite ladies and gentlemen.

Thoughts?

Larkinisking....you know the drill...move along don't bother commenting as I personally don't want to hear your opinion as it's never useful or constructive

I don't see why philly would be interested in that trade, why would they want to give up simmonds they are not a very deep team offensively as it is.

I feel this is based on the assumption that by the deadline philly's fate this year will be more defined meaning they will know for sure whether its playoffs or lottery by then and this is assuming its lottery

Even so philly's team isn't going to change much there team is close and I think they will be looking to add pieces not dish them out. If anything they will move Filppula at the deadline because he's only got one year left and will be 34 next year.

Simmonds only has remainder of this year and next. PHI would be looking at this as a roster that just isn't good enough to win the cup as they barely squeak into the playoffs the last few years. It's a re-tool around Provorov/Patrick/their young core. They likely won't/can't re-sign Simmonds his next deal (Jets won't either) because of how much of a raise he'll be do. He's vastly outplayed his contract and will be looking to cash in on the next one so why not get younger and another 1st rounder. Vesalainen likely replaces Simmonds maybe not next year, but the year after that (I personally think he's going to be an excellent top 6 50+ point winger) and the other pieces can be used to keep building without having to completely rebuild. The metro is a tough division right now, and PHI if they were smart would try and push that window 2-4 years from now as PIT and WSH will begin to decline and if they play their cards right and stock young, top level talent now they might be able to become a true contender which, let's face it...right now they're not!

Sure i read but any time someone calls me out i'm going to respond to it like it or not. Maybe if people on here knew how to make realistic proposals instead of garbage ones i wouldn't be criticizing them.

I don't see it happening, he is do a raise sure, but its not going to be an exorbitant one, he has proven to be a consistent player with between 50-60 points the last 4 season and reaching or coming to the 30 goal plateau each one. But he has also been a minus player each year even after putting up good points. I say his raise will be between 6.5 - 7mill at the max. He's right in his prime at around the same age as the rest of the core guys. Plus PHI is going to have 38mil in cap space the year simmonds is up with only one other big name to sign in provorov so they will have no problem resigning both thoses guys, in fact I'd be surprised if they didn't extend both of them.

Have you looked at Simmonds this year? He can't score or produce offense at 5vs5. Why would the jets pay that price for him? He has been regressing the last 3 seasons thats a player you stay away from.

It's funny how people want the jets to add a big name at the deadline and get rid of futures and/or current roster players. IMO the jets should stand pat at the deadline or just add some vets on expiring deals. One thing Ive noticed when jets players and coaches talk, they always mention the locker room and how this group of guys are all friends and have bought in. You don't want to mess with that chemistry.
