I just don't see Gardiner on the team long term, especially if we want to resign Matthews, Marner and Nylander while improving the D, So if we could trade him and a pick for a good RD and avoid trading Kapanen, I think we'd be better off long term.

Four year extension is a little much for Green, not to mention trading Gardiner for him results in an upgrade but not as great of one as you’d think

You can remove Komarov and replace with another piece then, that way they're still getting a young DMan to replace Green

Leafs badly need help on RD though, and have plenty of LD in the system to replace Gardiner, also I don't see Gardiner sticking with the Leafs after his contracts up

Hard to predict whether the Leafs will be buyers at the deadline or just stand pat, as a lot of people seem to be predicting. I do not see the Leafs giving up their 1st round draft pick, considering it may be quite high. Plus, that seems like a lot to give up for a player who is basically a right-handed version of Jake Gardiner. Even Gardiner walks at the end of next season, and even if Komarov walks at the end of this season, the Leafs still keep within their rebuilding plan and draft the build for the future. Finally, it is my belief that the Leafs can get better quality and quantity for both Komarov and Gardiner.

Mike Green has a no trade clause why would he waive it for a team with the highest media pressure in the NHL.

Plenty of reasons, go back and play with babs, play on a playoff bound team with a very bright future, and when your winning in Toronto, the media pressure is nowhere near as bad as it is in Montreal and Edmonton right now. Typical Leafs hater.

Seeing that Gardiner makes less then Green a Gardiner for Green swap would work for us, But i can't see Lou giving up Gardiner for Green and Green and his family love it there in Detroit and Green has stated that he's willing to resign in Detroit and take much less so we shall see.

Detroit would take this and run, Not sure if they've any interest in Gardiner but adding Komarov and a 2018 1st round pick can't say no to that.

Green is NOT an upgrade on Gardiner. Gardiner skates better, shoots better, better vision, better defensive mindset. Passes better. Besides Gardiners umm "brainfarts" Gardiner is the MUCH better defenceman.

Another nonsensical sign and trade. How's this scenario. For whatever insane reason, the Leafs are allowed to negotiate with Green. They come to an this a verbal 4 X 6 agreement as you suggest. Leafs "back out" of the trade. Keep Gardiner and their 1st round pick. It's not like having Green is going is change the Leafs fortunes this year. Come June, Leafs now how the inside track as they know what Green request in a deal. And even if the Green doesn't sign, the Leafs still have Gardiner and the pick. Now you know why this sign an trades are 99% of the time so unrealistic.
PS. If any team would make a legitimate trade for Green, you would think it would be a true contender that is "going all in.". Certainly not the Leafs.
