Why does ANA trade for a dman they don't need and sacrifice their insane center depth.

OTT can't take that deal, they have 49 contracts. 50 is the max.

pending UFA on Vermette and he's 35 is the only logic i can see.
Raekell is a center playing wing because of the depth you pointed out and Kossila is being held down not
to forget Troy Terry needs a Roster spot in March or he'll likely go UFA Aug.1st like Butcher and Vesey .

personally i still wouldnt do it but i could see why they would given ANA bottom 6 is old and beat up

I'm sure Ottawa would find a way to make it work. Can't turn that down if they're doing a rebuild.

Believe it or not, Anaheim could use a defenseman. Beauchemin and Bieksa are 2 of the slowest players in the NHlL. They aren’t good defensively. Grant can easily step in at 4C. Wagner could also play C. They could also call up Kosilla or even Troy Terry.

I figured we would at least have their interest with: Palat (solid 2LW with term), Koekkoek (smooth skating LHD with 2nd pairing potential), Foote (RHD prospect with good top-4 potential), and a late 1st round pick. To put it over the top as the overpay it would take: Howden (prospect with 2C potential) and Raddysh (prospect with 2RW potential).

Honestly man, one of the better deals I've ever seen. It will take an overpayment. Tampa is stacked with prospects while already having a great team. I don't see Tampa giving this all up until they can negotiate with EK before the trade, but I'm sure he would stay in Tampa if they A) won a cup and b) was willing to may him his 11 mil. Also taxes play a big part.

This puts them way over the 50 maximum contract figure.
