Sam Bennet: Your Top-2 Center Comment and Rate!

Description
If Montreal is going to trade Patioretty its obvious they need to get a center in return. Of course Patches wont yield a #1 center, or even a number 2. That being said it is possible they could acquire a young unproven center with top 2 potential. Enter Sam Bennett.

On top of the moves made here montreal can go try to find a more suitable 2nd-3rd line center in free agency and will likely get a dynamic D or winger in the upcoming draft. Also wouldnt be suprised if alzner , schlemko, morrow and jerabek (not all of them) are traded to give Juulsen and or Lernout a shot. Similarly expect Carr to be traded if they dont plan on giving him a full time spot next year

sam bennet is actaully a very good player to target. though mtl shouldnt add in that trade, and calgary should give only a 2nd or 1st rd pick

Felt that it gave Montreal a Chance to get rid of Benns contract, also Brook is MTL's top D from the 2017 draft and is outperforming expectations this year in Moosejaw so I figured if they're going to take CAL's top D prospect CAL will want a solid one back

i wouldnt trade brook. there is a market for benn, as teams want depth d-men. also calgary might not trade valimaki, but probably kylington. he could jump right into our top 4

I agree. a great trade idea would be something like:

Montreal Canadiens
Sam Bennett
2019 first round pick
maybe a B prospect?

Calgary Flames
Paccioretty

Unfortunately Bennet has been slotted as 3rd line LW. It seems that he's more comfortable there. I like him alot and he's young, but I personally wouldn't want to try to develop another C. I want to mention that according to rumors I've read, CGY is looking for a RW to play with Bennet and Jankowski. So I'm not sure Pacioretty is what CGY is after. I've read somewhere they might be targeting Gallagher.

Great that you targeted Sam Bennett to be your first line centre but he’s actually a second and you also have allot of bad contracts left A.Shaw,Alzner,Petry,Schlemko.

Im not saying hes a first if you would have read the description, its just that they need to get a center for patioretty and its pretty much impossible to get a 1st line center so MTL have to settle for a second liner, also i mentioned that they can try to clear out some of those bad contracts i just didnt know where to put them

"Bennet the Bust" ?? are you kidding me?? what are you basing this of of? He has just as many points as patioretty did at his age and has great offensive upside

The difference is that Bennet is for sure a C, unlike Drouin who is a winger... he may not be comfortable there but thats because its a big time position for a young player to fill in the NHL. Bottom line is that he for sure has the ability to play C and just needs time and experience

I dont see the harm in giving up a D (Benn) plus a a mid-late round 2nd plus a bottom 2 D (Brook) for a potential top pairing guy in Valimaki. juyst my opinion

agree. he's 21. we tend to think that if a top 5 draft pick isn't putting up 70 points by the time he's 20, he's a bust. thats just not true. he has mad skills. crazy skills. scouts loved him. you just need to be patient with him. and i think it'll do him better off on another team, as calgary's depth down the middle is very good with monahan, backlund and jankowski. he needs an opportunity to prove him self. he's only 21. come on. i just watched a calgary game a few days back, and the plays he was making. oh man. he looked like a top 6 center. he just needs time

Like I said, I like him alot. I just don't have faith in the current management to develop him properly, like they did with Galchenyuk. But he's playing LW as we speak. And I don't think it makes sense for CGY to trade a 21 y/o C/LW, with the possibility of Backlund testing free agency this summer. Without Backlund, at least Jankowski or Bennet can replace him. And I'll just mention again that the rumors I've read indicate that theyre looking for a RW. Personlly I'd trade Drouin for O'Reilly and try signing Backlund in the summer 5.5/yr for 5-6yrs.
