Too much for Carolina to give up. Not that value is off, but I just don't think trading young developing players for backstrom is in their interest.

Gives Carolina two excellent veterans for the playoffs, and a younger, more talented right defenseman. Gives Washington a younger left defenseman who can play Orpik's minutes, a younger center who can play Eller's minutes if Eller has earned a tryout in a top six role (and between Ovechkin and Oshie, I think Eller's puck handling will serve him well). Downgrades the Caps at right D, and they will simply have to address that hole through free agency or another trade, but overall, this gets the Caps much younger, and doesn't give up too much.

And that's how I know it won't really happen,but I like it.

Less than zero percent chance the Canes make a trade like this. Tuevo is a #2 scorer this year and Hanifin has more potential than any defender on our team.........which is saying alot. would love to get these guys from WSH but giving up half our young core isnt gonna happen.
justaBoss liked this.

Capitals will overspend essentially making themselves a worse team in the process and then they will lose in the 2nd round to the Penguins.
