Maatta is just as good as Tanev but a lot younger
We don’t want Sutters crazy contract

I’m not sure why we are also giving up a first and 2 seconds

I could see the possibility if you guy took Hunwick and retained salary, but I think this an obvious no at this point

1. Why would the Penguins be dumping salary? They are trying to win now.
2. This isn't even a cap dump. Tanev and Sutter have a higher total cap hit than Maatta and Hagelin, and Sutter is on the books longer than Hagelin.
3. Tanev is on IR, so this only hurts the Pens D corps.
4. Maatta is younger, cheaper, and has longer term than Tanev. That exchange, alone, is a clear loss for the Pens, and Sutter does not bring nearly enough to the Pens to make up for that loss, plus the loss of three draft picks.
5. If Sutter were to come to the Pens, he's a 4C behind Sheahan. No way the Pens are giving up those assets and paying close to $4.4 million for a 4C that's going to play 5 minutes a game.
6. Even taking the draft picks away, the trade is a clear loss for the Pens. Three draft picks is a non-starter.

Creative, but the Pens aren't giving up all that for Tanev and an overpayed player we already traded once.

That is a terrible deal for Pittsburgh. It also makes no sense for them either. You should be paying us in 1st round picks just to take back Sutter and that disaster of a contract. Tanev is injured quite often (including right now) so there would be very little benefit in acquiring him either.

This is an extreme overpayment by the Pens. I'm a big Canucks fans but if you breakdown the trade, I basically see it this way:

To Pens:
Tanev

To Canucks:
2018 1st round pick (PIT)
2018 2nd round pick (PIT)
2019 2nd round pick (PIT)

This is the price the Flames paid for Hamonic so is high, but possible. Then you have the second part of the trade:

To Pens:
Sutter

To Canucks:
Hagelin, C
Määttä, O

^This is ridiculous, Sutter is a 3rd line center. Trading Hagelin who is a serviceable 3rd line PLUS Määttä who is a fantastic top 4 young Dman is never going to happen unless Rutherford has a gun to his head.

I could realistically see the trade going down like this:

To Pens:
Sutter
Tanev

To Canucks
Hagelin
2018 1st round pick (PIT)
2018 4th round pick (PIT)
2019 2nd round pick (PIT)

With the Canucks retaining salary to make it work. However with Brassard being traded to the Pens earlier today they no longer need someone like Sutter.
