I don't know... you might want to add a little more depth at center?

Thanks Tips. There is an implied trade for Tavares rights to get the 8th year and lower cap hit.

I ran out of hometown boys that have Olympic gold medals.

Should probably fix the right side on defense before signing all those forwards

No need. The best defence is a good offence and we have good young players.

Both players and teams certainly be agreeable to bridge deals. Teams certainly like to "lock up" please their for long term if they think the player is going to grow into a star. Nylander would be just one year away from UFA status I believe if he signed a three year RFA deal, and certainly wouldn't have a great desire to sign long term to the Leafs after that deal ended. He'd close so close being a UFA.

Nylander is signing for nothing less than $6,500,000. Maybe more.... I could see the Marner and Nylander getting identical contracts much like Toews and Kane got identical contracts.. I mean it will be hard to explain to Nylander how he's worth less than Marner, and that could potentially chap Nylanders ass.

If Toronto want's Tavares then they're going to have to trade Nylander and IMO that would be the best option for Toronto... Trade Nylander for a top 4 defenseman... Leddy would look nice in Toronto.

You want to trade Nylander for a player that could be the 4th best left handed defenseman on the team? Not to mention the islanders D is a horrible?

Matching deals though, does make a ton of sense.

It definitely is a growing trend for young players to skip the 2nd contract and go straight for the long term deal.

You always seem so concerned about the players feelings and maybe Nylander would be a whiney little ***** about it but at least then you separate the men from the boys. And you have the cap space to sign key vets and win Cups.

I expect 5-8 year deals for the big 3. This was only a different approach rather than the same thing again and again in a different thread.

Sorry, if haven't read my post, I don't know why you think I'm so concerned about players feelings. I do know players (and teams) have options under the CBA. . Actually I think Nylander is different type of guy. I have written that I think he may accept a bridge deal instant as of a long term deal this summer. The reason is he may think there are bigger $$$$ later if he improves as a player. Trouba was one guy that allegedly spurned a longer for more lucrative deal at the end of his ELC for a cheaper two year deal. He is eligible for two years of arbitration and then UFA 2020 if hasn't signed long term. Maybe Nylander goes that route too. Either way just sorta think the Leafs are going to base their team around young players rather than older ones. But the Leaf do some cap money for a UFA or two if they think those UFAs can help put them over the top....and you did suggest three UFAs that might help.(especially Tavares)
