Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 30, 2018
Published: Mar. 30, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Bowman takes advantage of this deep draft and realizes this is a fantastic opportunity to stock up on first round high end talent in a deep draft by acquiring 2 more picks at the cost of Saad, Ansimov & Murphy, but Bowman does add Nick Leddy in the deal and drafts Oliver Wahlstrom & Evan Bouchard with his picks. To make the day better the Hawks win the draft lottery and select Rasmus Dahlin first overall and pick center Jack McBain at #31 via Nashville. All and all the day turned out to be a franchise changing moment.

2. With taking advantage of the opportunity to stock up on high end talent at the draft Bowman opened up 2 significant holes on offense in the first and second line LW roles. Bowman signs James van Riemsdyk and Ilya Kovalchuk to fill those holes with his fingers crossed that this over the top experiment will work.

3. Bowman understanding that he needs depth both in the bottom 6 and on defense he signs Antone Vermette and John Moore, as well as adding some stability to the net by signing Carter Hutton.

4. The Blackhawks albeit a young team but extremely talented team have a bright future ahead of them with a new core of Dahlin, Bouchard and Jokiharju leading one of the best young defensive cores in the league in defense and with Schmaltz, DeBrincat, Wahlstrom, Sikura, Duclair, Hinostroza, McBain and Hayden leading the way on offense. Bowman is confident this young core will win the Hawks at least 3 more cups in the future with veterans like Toews, Kane, Keith & Seabrook teaching these kids how to win along the way.

The Chicago Blackhawks should be contenders for another decade after taking a step back.

NYI gets absolutely fleeced in that trade. There's no way they're going to give up 2 lottery picks to a team, along with a top 4d, in exchange for that kind of return.

Maybe, maybe not.... If Tavares isn't signed by the draft the odds of Tavares resigning would me minuscule so they would need Anisimov. Saad is a legitimate 25-year-old top 6 left wing and Murphy is only 23 and he has promise.. The package the Hawks are sending are young enough to play a role long-term and would payoff immediately... With prospects they have to wait ....

This isn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be for the Islanders - they're absolutely a better team with this trade than without it - the question is will the Islanders be a better team in the future not making the trade? well only time would tell that.

Also, it's not like the Islanders are giving up a top 5 pick - every team that didn't make the playoffs has a "lottery pick"... Leddy, #9 & #11 for Saad, Anisimov & Murphy is more than fair... What do you think a #10 pick is worth? lol

Considering Leddy is NYI's number one defenseman, and it's a very good, deep draft this year, it's a terrible trade for NYI. Who do they have to replace Leddy as their top guy?

I think that your ideas are not bad, even if they are very risky! I would say that Leddy is a bit too much in the NYI trade, but that the premise of trading those guys for two 1st round picks and a good d-man is good.

My two concerns are that I think Bouchard goes before the 9th pick and that Chicago may not win the lottery (they have the 4th or 5th best odds...). The other thing is, isn't that a high salary cap? That's a lot of money to spend with all of these risks.

NYI won't do that trade because of the draft...not because of Leddy. He's their #1dman...by default. He's really a 2nd pair dman...and an average one at that.

I'm going to assume you have the Blackhawks firing Q if they're bringing back Leddy and Vermette.
Fun trade thoughts though.

Bouchard is projected to go at 8 but I will be happy with whomever the Hawks take in the top 10 with their pick... I really like all the players in the top 15 and any one of them would make the Hawks a better team down the road, which is why I want Stan to swoop in and try to acquire another pick or 2.

Obviously this is just one of several directions this team could go. But stocking up on prospects in this draft wouldn't be a bad idea.

Of course the chances of this happening are slim to none BUT I do think (and hope) that Bowman is going to try and package Anisimov up with Nashville's first round pick to move up in the draft...... If Bowman can walk away from the draft with Bouchard and Veleno I would be thrilled - but like I said I like them all so.

It will be interesting to see how this draft plays out.
