Nice that Nylander is now a centre and Matthews is now a LWer. And that's the best part of the post.

Nice,Nylander takes a discount, you give a center and an old guy to MTL for their 3 upcoming prospects, get St louises top two prospects for basically Jake Gardiner, and then send JVR off for a cheaper version of him self. All while not being able to sign Mathews, Marner or any of the other prospects for decent contracts after that. Good strategy

Montreal trade and Toronto trade will never go through. First, you're trading St.Louis top 2 prospects for a top 4 dman, a 3rd line center, and other Junk. Second, why would Montreal want an old left winger in exchange for youth? That's totally going in the wrong way. Keep on dreaming.

That STL Trade is stupid!! They're not giving up 3 good to possibly great prospects and a 2nd round pick for pretty much Gardiner a top 4 d man, Bozak a 2nd line center, Komarov a 3rd or 4th line winger, Hyman who without Matthews would on any other team be a 2nd or 3rd line winger, and Martin who not even playing games right now. As shown by the Stastny trade they're rebuilding! This just dosen't work!

You're offering Carlson 8.5M, and the Caps have publicly said they're not sure another team will offer him 8M, so you think that gets him? If he wants to be a Maple Leaf, he's certainly free to go there, but 6x8.5=51M. The Caps counter with an eight year deal at a cap hit of 7M. 7x8=56. They front load it a bit, and he gets to keep playing with his friends and make more money, short and long term.

You've got more cap space, but it's pretend cap space, because none of your "trades" appeal remotely to any other team's needs or goals. So as a Caps fan who hopes Carlson sticks around, I'm not worried by your amateur low-balling, short-term offer.

You signed Tavares for 8 years, but you didn't trade for his rights, so you can only offer him 7. Again, if you offer him 7x12.5, NYI counter with 8x11.5, and they've won by a mile. Trading away all of your bad contracts and signing all of the best UFAs for cheap only happens when your playstation is set on the easy level. In the NHL, the other teams want to win, too.
