The Big Signing is... JVR

Team: 2018-19 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 5, 2018
Published: Apr. 5, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Signed JVR, I think he will do well on a line with Mack and Rantanen,
Landeskog dropping down to a line with Jost and Kerfoot would do well I think,
Kept Bernier for 2 years in case Varly is gone next year so we have a legit NHL goalie on contract,
Keeping Nemeth as he is the MOST UNDERRATED player on this team,
Promoted Meloche to the NHL, bold prediction ->he kills it in training camp, he has NHL size already.
There's space and contract room to sign more, but I figured I'd just do the essentials,

The Avs big problem here is still depth. You are not going to get much scoring from your bottom 2 lines.

Yeah I am hoping for 6.2-6.8 range for a JVR signing, but I decided to go that high just in case the Avs fall into the free agency trap and overpay.

Nieto, Soderberg, and Compher will have scored 12-16 each this season, Andrighetto is on pace for 14 or so. Not 20 goal scorer,s but even though they aren`t sexy names, it`s not unreasonable to think they can be good depth players with room to add more during the season. But this does also put a lot of pressure on Jost and Kerfoot to have good seasons next year.

Seems like overpayment on term and AAV value for a player who plays around 12 minutes per game and does not get any defensive zone starts. Plus, that signing will eventually mess up the Avs cap situation considering all their young players who will be coming off ELCs in the next few seasons. At $6 million AAV over 4 or 5 years, you can at least mitigate some of the future damage of that contract. Personally, I'd think the Avs would rather use that money to sign John Carlson.

How come Carlson ? Wouldn`t Barrie be a similar, or even same player ? That would be 17 or so mil on the right side of all three lines. Unless Johnson is on the LTIR forever, which isn`t a completely crazy thought.

You are not getting JVR at $6 mil per. Someone will likely pay him $6.75 per for the 5-7 year term. You also just made an argument why he should be paid more than the $6 mil. He is crazy productive in the time he is on the ice. Last year he was top 20 in pts/60.

I understand your point. But they are very YOUNG. So as these guys all gain experience maybe the depth will come around. Also got Bowers at BU on the way as well. I think its looking pretty bright if even just a couple of these kids develop.

Oh you keep banging that drum....I forgot if 1/3 to 1/2 of a teams fwd core made out of rookies are suppose to come out and each be 60point 25goal scorers. If not thye are all trash depth players

Now lets have your triggered response saying avs team is trash outside of MacKinnon like you have done in the past

JVR is the biggest name (notice how I didn't say best) out side of John Tavares and John Carlson. He'll get massive amount of money. 7x7 if he hits the free market.
