You've got more than enough cap space to sign Carlson. But so do Washington where's played his whole career, Vegas where the GM who drafted him and wrote his current contract works, and New Jersey where he's from. This would be a great deal for Buffalo, but they've got much better odds in the Dahlin lottery. Okay... Washington only has cap space if they buy out Orpik (or trade him for a similar 3M reduction in cap hit) and trade Grubauer or Wilson, each of whom could easily get a good pick and a good prospect.

You're undervaluing Girgensons and Larsson.

Detroit works really well for both sides, since they're probably losing Mike Green in free agency, who also gets most of his points on the power play.

I am no fan of Larsson too many dumb penalties and weak in the defensive zone but he is worth more than a throw away 6th round pick. Girgensons is a high effort guy who is really loved in the room (he was voted unsung hero by his teammates this year) so dumping him for a low round pick is not the move to make.... Eli is spot on in regard to those two players.

I do not think you will get Carter Hutton for $2,500,000 as he has had too solid of a year. There are better options out there to complete your tandem.

Vanek is not necessary and not at that salary.

If we are lucky enough to win the lottery and grab Dahlin do not make the mistake and rush him. Let him mature and develop a year before bringing him into this losing environment.

I do not agree with buying out Bogosian I think he is capable D if he can stay healthy. If he can not stay healthy you place him on LTIR and get cap relief.

Montreal might appreciate getting a good deal but they're stocked up on wings. Maybe Edmonton? Or at that price, Pittsburgh fans will see a chance to swap you Conor Sheary, whom they are universally sick of?

Vanek is still pretty decent, but...
-we want to get faster
-he will have offers from better teams

Just don’t see it happening
