Ryan O'Reilly to St.Louis. 5 different times. By request!!!!

Created by: Zach
Team: 2017-18 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 20, 2018
Published: Apr. 20, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ryan O'Reilly has had 3 consecutive 20+ goal seasons, 5 consecutive 55+ point seasons, is the best faceoff man in the league, won the Lady Byng trophy in 2013-14, and only had sat in the penalty box for 2 minutes in 81 games this season. In fact Ryan O'Reilly has played 651 NHL game and hasn't even spent an hour and a half in the penalty box in his entire NHL career.

These 5 trades are all gonna be fair value for a player of O'Reilly's caliber and the fact he is locked up for another 5 years makes him that much more valuable.

ROR to St Louis is one of more sensible trade this off season.

          Schwartz>O’Reilly

          Wrong

O'Reilly won the most faceoffs in a single season in NHL history, how many did Schwartz win?
O'Reilly is a center (harder position)
O'Reilly has played almost double of what Schwartz has and has 15 less PIM
O'Reilly is a really good defensive player
O'Reilly has 5 years left company to Schwartz's 3 years
O'Reilly plays on the worst team in modern era hockey, Schwartz plays for a really good team

Sounds like you better just keep O'Reilly. I'd rather the Blues convince Stastny to come back for a few years and provide the lite version of ROR so we can keep our assets if that's the cost of the trade.

I'd enjoy seeing ROR in the Note centering Tank, but most deals above won't work due to team plans for the young players noted and city wide riots which might occur if the trade happened.

          I could see:

          V.Sobotka (for cap relief)
J.Schmaltz (RD, who is buried currently due to RD depth)
S.Blais (LW, who showed some potential on 2nd line this past year)
          and
          - either -
          T.Kaspick (C, junior league) + 3rd/4th round pick
          - or -
          1st round 2018 (from Jets)

I think the value is there in most of these. I will say that the Blues wouldn’t trade Schwartz for ROR straight up, much less him, our top goalie prospect, and a pick. He’s arguably on the most team friendly non ELC in the league.

2 and 3 are the most conceivable though because we don’t have the blue line depth to trade Dunn or Parayko at this point.

          Thanks for the post though!

Fine, but it’s closer than you think. Schwartz was on his way to 80 + points this year before the injury and his team absolutely crumbled without him. He’s the most important player to the success of the Blues.

i don't like trading for goaltenders but husso is going to be an above average NHL goalie and might already be one. he had a .922 save percentage on a below average AHL team that got shelled night in and night out in a tough division. any trade with him gives us a young and cheap 1-2 combo in net next season. we can use the cap space to try and entice a free agent while allowing some of our albatross contracts to expire. you're not going to get schwartz and husso though. i'd be thrilled with husso, kyrou, and a pick.
