How long of an extension are we talking about..... how much per year......

I would pass if I am GMBots as I do not trust that Patches has rid himself of his demons...... yes he has been a good boy for a year but I am still not sold.

He can't sign an extension before July 1st which is after the draft.

Very true, my mistake... That complicates things, but otherwise I think a trade involving those players makes a lot of sense for both teams. Mtl might have to add more to compensate for age and position difference, but then again ROR's contract is heavy and Buf sheds that. Don't think they will find a better scorer for him elsewhere either.

I think the basis for a trade legitimately exists here.

Given Mtl's extremely thin depth at C and their available cap space, I think it would be well worth it for them.

2 years age difference between the two players, really not that big a difference...

Last 6 seasons (excluding lockout): Pacioretty gets to the 60+ point mark 5 times, 65+ 3 times. ROR 60+ 3 times, 65+ 0 times. Patch hits 30+ goals 5 times, 35+ 3 times. ROR only gets 25+ once. Both played nearly identical minutes, and also with subpar teammates, and there's a strong case that Patch played with worse.

I don't see what is so far fetched about this... Does Buffalo really want to be stuck with that much money committed to this player when their future at C is Eichel and Mittlestadt? And with Kane gone Eichel has no legit first-line sniper to play with. Patch got 30+ playing with Danault and Desharnais, how many does he get with Eichel? Mtl obviously needs all the help it can get in the middle. And both players have made it clear they could use a change of scenery. The fit is there for both teams.

Patches and ROR are not the same player. RORs game will last much longer than Patches. Sabres can also get much better offers. RORs contract doesnt hurt them, the Sabres are not a budget team. Even if you think thats a valid argue, do you think Patches is playing for free next contract? They'll be stuck with an older player who wants similar money for 7 years. Also you want to argue Patches had worse line mates, when Buffalo has been at the bottom of the league since 2012?

Well sure, its a sweet deal for montreal. Its garbage for buffalo. Not sure what the confusion is here.
