Hows the value? EDM/MTL

Created by: SankFeravalli
Team: 2017-18 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2018
Published: May 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Galchenyuk has scored more points that Nugent-Hopkins in four of the last six seasons, but it's been close each year. For their careers, their points per game are similar. RNH is at 0.68 while Galchenyuk is at 0.61. But as a center and with his solid two-way play, Nugent-Hopkins makes a bigger impact on the ice.
Trades
EDM
  1. Galchenyuk, Alex
  2. 2018 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Edmonton gets a skilled winger to play with McDavid, and moves up from 10 to 4, where they can take another winger who can play right away (Zadina or Tkachuk) or a stud defenseman (Boqvist, Bouchard, or Hughes).
MTL
  1. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
  2. 2018 1st round pick (EDM)
  3. 2019 3rd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Montreal is in desperate need of a center, but there isn't a center worth taking at #4. The get Nugent-Hopkins who can immediately be their top center, and they have the chance to take another center or a defenseman at 10. Players who could be available include Kotkaniemi, Veleno, Smith, and Dobson. Edmonton includes the Islanders 2019 3rd to balance the value.

Habs have the 3rd pick not the 4th. And no I wouldn't do the trade the difference between RNH and Galchenyuk is not 7 spots and a third. Id rather draft Zadina and trade Patches

I would only make that trade for the 3rd pick as there is a drop off in the talent after that. Other than Tkachuk who i dont think the oilers should take all other forwards who could go at 4-5 may still be around at 10 (like Wahlstrom)

I think the value is reasonably fair and would probably benefit both teams. That said, I'm not convinced it's the best offer the Habs could get for Galchenyuk and the #3 pick. I suspect the Kings, Ducks and Devils would be among the teams that would be able/willing to offer more.

If I’m MTL I’d pass on that trade. I think Nugent Hopkins is over rated. When he centered Hall and Eberle he broke 50 points two seasons in a row but wasn’t good enough for them to win, after that he dwindled. He had less then 40 two years in a row while playing center and only improved this year while playing beside McDavid.

Galchenyuk has fought against management his entire career and been ridiculously misused in Montreal because of his ‘defensive play’ and still puts up over 40 a year.

Honestly the biggest threat when trading with Edmonton is the fact that what RNH does with McDavid he isn’t going to do anywhere else. If you pay a premium o get him (which this definitely is) your not getting a player that can actually handle being a top line center and hasn’t even really proven he be a top 2 center in this league, while Edmonton gets a player they will know can play on their top line and handle those responsibilities because their responsibilities are going to be as big on that team with McDavid and Draistle

Allow me...

Maybe RNH isn't the point per game center that Edmonton thought they were getting when they drafted him. That's all right. But, if he proved that he can play on McDavid's wing, and that he can also be a serviceable center if needed, then why would they all of the sudden move him for a winger who hasn't proven that he can do either of those things? Also, if you're giving Gally the benefit of the doubt re: Management misusing him, then I think you should look at the other side when it comes to the Nuge being a 150 lb 18 year old being put on the top line and getting banged around for a couple of years instead of letting him grow (2016-2017 was his first full season). The same can be said for most of the other Oilers picks for that matter.

You're just terribly misinformed. He's a winger now. He has no reason to play centre. Draisaitl and mcdavid can play that. Rnh can actually finish a play. Not like maroon or hall on McDavid's wing lol

Ok but we are comparing trade values here. And in my opinion Galchenyuk and 3rd overall is an over payment for RNH and 10th overall. How am I miss informed? When he was a center the past two seasons he was under 40 points, on Mcdavids wing he ended up with 48. Galchenyuk got more points playing on Jacob De la roses wing....

I don’t know what your trying to argue me on here

Yeah, probably didn't need to rush him to the Show. Obviously Yamamoto and RNH aren't the same player, but it was nice to see them make the call to send him back to junior. He's 159 lbs. Let the kid put some meat on his bones!

Ok but Galchenyuk has proven he can put produce RNH with worst players on his line. And Galchenyuk did the same thing, he played from the time he was 18 till now, actually almost played the same amount of games in his career while being a year younger.

That’s my whole arguement in this discussion lol I was saying why I wouldn’t do that trade. Edmonton walks away with the two best players.
