Two points:

1. The cap will be at least 80M next year.
2. Patches had just 37 points last year. He’s 30 years old and in the final year of his contract. I’m not prepared to give up a top 10 pick and a solid third line center for a guy like that.

Patches would be nice but that's an overpay. Maybe if he was still putting up elite scoring numbers.

What about including Lucic in the deal, and having Montreal include a 2nd round pick from this upcoming draft?

EDM shouldn't be send top 10 pick unless is for RHD with term otherwise the player won't help the team enough in the long term to make it worth losing the pick

We are not trading Klefbom, Draisaitl, Nuge, or the 10th pick to Montreal since they don’t have anyone we need without creating another hole in the lineup.

Pacioretty had a down season and in the last year of his contract, if anything he’s worth a late first round pick or a high second round pick since it’s a risk he might not even resign with the team he gets traded to.
