1 year of 30 year old, LW, LHS Pacioretty? I think he would be a great add but not really what the Flames need. Also, he'd need to be re-signed before even considering.

I think that clogs up Calgary’s left wing to much. Gaudreau and Tkachuk are top 6 wingers, adding Pacioretty would take time away from Tkachuks development and I don’t think Calgary makes that move.

Wingers are very interchangeable. Max shoots left but can play RW at the drop of a dime. Its really not a big deal as some think. Its harder for dmen to play the offside because being able to make D to D passes and holding the line in dump in's, etc. Many get put on the opposite side simply because of the lack of good RHD dmen but wingers get put on their shooting side all the time.

I'm not opposed to this deal, but there has to be an extension in place that isn't ridiculous and crippling. He's going to 30 a month into the season, and 31 before an extension would kick in.

I'd still rather look for a younger option, and preferably a right shot.

Could add one more piece on each side of the deal to get some extension incentive built in:

- MTL adds a pick (say a 2019 2nd rounder) that has conditions. If Patches extends in CGY, the pick becomes a 5th or 6th rounder in 2020.
- CGY adds Curtis Lazar (C/RW)
